We care deeply about the environment. That is why, during ROKLING, we make a real effort not to harm nature, but to help it instead. Gorges are often home to fascinating habitats and beautiful little natural scenes that you rarely encounter elsewhere. When passing through gorges, please be considerate of nature and enjoy their beauty in a way that leaves as little trace of your presence as possible.
We want to help spread awareness about the biota and ecology of gorges, as well as about nature in general. Since water is an inseparable part of gorges – whether in the form of small mountain streams or larger brooks – we also aim to raise public awareness about water and the importance of upper stream sections, into which these gorge streams flow. This is especially important in the context of water retention in the landscape and flood-prevention measures.
One of the possible forms of Rokling is cleaning gorges of litter. Unfortunately, gorges are often used by people as dumping grounds for unwanted items and materials, and especially near settlements they tend to contain numerous illegal waste dumps. We will therefore be very happy if you join us with some practical help – by packing a trash bag in your backpack, collecting some litter along the way, and carrying it down to a waste container.
If you are willing to bring a trash bag, fill it with litter and take it to a waste container, ROKLING will also take on an ecological dimension.
Some items mutilating the gorges are too much for a family trip. Even strong men will have to work hard to pull out a tractor tyre or an old stove and carry it out of the forest.
But if they succeed, nature (and also the men’s muscles) will be grateful… 🙂
